Is Bitcoin Mining Still a Profitable Business in Pakistan? (2026 Update)

I have been asked this question more times than I can count. People message on WhatsApp, leave comments on YouTube, walk into our office in Okara  and the first thing out of their mouth is always the same: “Bhai, kya abhi bhi mining se paise banta hai?”

The short answer is yes. But the longer answer is what actually matters, and that is what this article is about.

I have been mining Bitcoin since 2012. I have seen GPU rigs, I have seen early ASICs, I have seen the 2017 bull run, the 2018 crash, the China mining ban, the 2024 halving, and now the regulatory changes happening right here in Pakistan. So when I talk about profitability, I am not guessing. I am speaking from 14 years of being in this business on the ground.

What Has Changed Since 2017

When this post was first written, a 6 GPU rig was giving around $400 to $550 per month. Ethereum was the coin everyone was racing to mine. A decent setup cost a few lakh rupees and you could recover it in 6 months.

That world no longer exists.

Ethereum moved to Proof of Stake in 2022. GPU mining for big profits is largely over. The game today is ASIC mining  dedicated machines built for one purpose only, which is to mine Bitcoin as fast and efficiently as possible.

The Bitcoin network has also grown enormously. The global hashrate is many times higher than it was in 2017, which means competition is tougher. Individual machines produce less Bitcoin than before on a per-unit basis. But here is the thing  Bitcoin’s price has also grown significantly, which is why serious miners are still making good money.

Is Bitcoin Mining Profitable in Pakistan Right Now?

Yes, but electricity is the single factor that decides everything.

Pakistan has a unique advantage that most countries do not have  access to hydro and solar power at very low or near-zero cost. If you are in KPK, Swat Valley, Azad Kashmir, or any area with access to hydro electricity, your cost per unit can be as low as Rs. 3 to Rs. 5. That makes Pakistan one of the most attractive places in the world for Bitcoin mining right now.

Here is a realistic picture for 2026:

A single Antminer S21 XP running at 270 TH/s on solar or hydro power can generate roughly $250 to $350 per month in Bitcoin at current prices and difficulty levels. Your electricity cost on solar is near zero after the initial solar investment. Your machine pays itself back within 12 to 18 months depending on Bitcoin price movement.

On grid electricity at Rs. 50 to Rs. 60 per unit, the numbers do not work. Your bill will eat your earnings. This is why we always tell customers  do not start mining unless you have a plan for cheap electricity.

Two Things That Still Determine Your Success

When I wrote the original version of this article in 2017, I said profitability depends on two things: how much you invest, and whether you have access to cheap electricity. In 2026, that is still true. Nothing has changed on that front.

Investment size matters. Running one machine is fine for learning, but it is not a business. A real mining operation starts at 5 to 10 machines minimum. That is when your fixed costs  internet, farm setup, maintenance  get spread across enough hashrate to make the numbers work properly.

Electricity cost is everything. I cannot stress this enough. The difference between Rs. 5 per unit and Rs. 50 per unit is the difference between serious monthly income and a monthly loss. Solar-powered mining farms and hydro-powered setups are where the real profits are being made in Pakistan today.

What Pakistan’s Regulatory Environment Looks Like in 2026

This is actually good news. Pakistan has taken major steps toward legalizing and regulating cryptocurrency. PVARA  the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority  has been established and is actively working on a framework for crypto businesses including mining operations.
